Panther Chameleon

The Panther Chameleon is a vividly colored lizard known for its dazzling array of hues, which can include blues, reds, greens, oranges, and yellows. Males are especially vibrant and can reach lengths of 14–20 inches, while females are smaller and more subdued in color. These chameleons are famous for their independently moving eyes, projectile tongues, and ability to change color for communication and thermoregulation. Their striking appearance and fascinating behaviors make them a favorite among reptile enthusiasts.

Panther Chameleons are native to the tropical forests and coastal lowlands of Madagascar, particularly in the island’s northeastern regions. They thrive in warm, humid environments with plenty of vegetation, using branches and foliage to climb and hide. These arboreal reptiles prefer dense canopies and are rarely found on the ground unless moving between trees or laying eggs.

As insectivores, Panther Chameleons primarily feed on a variety of insects, catching them with their long, sticky tongues. Males are territorial and often display aggressive color changes to ward off rivals or attract mates. They play a role in insect population control and are preyed upon by birds, snakes, and larger mammals. In the wild, their health and population are closely tied to the quality of their forest habitats, which are increasingly threatened by deforestation and climate change.
